Toby Mac In Tallahassee……….

We are bout to head to Tally to hear Toby Mac in concert.  This will be my third time seeing him.  This time Jamie Grace ( female ) will be singing with him.  His concerts are always a blast.  Afterwards I plan on taking my wife to Cracker Barrel…………..It’s gonna be fun.

Azusa Street

To all of my Pentecostal/Charismatic friends out there, especially pastors.  Have you read anything substantial documenting the history of the modern Pentecostal movement?  Is there any required readings in seminary?  Specifically, what is the standard representation of Azusa Street?  My old IPHC manual seems to paint Azusa with a very positive brush.  However it seems well substantiated that Parham denounced the revival upon visiting Seymour!  If Seymour was denounced by the very teacher and ‘shaker’ and ‘mover’ in the initial teachings then would this call into question the version that we are reading in our modern Pentecostal manuals?  Now don’t get me wrong, I’m a very generous supporter of the gifts of the Spirit and especially the gift of tongues.  This is a topic that I would be eager to publicly debate with a cessationist if the opportunity would arise and was needed.  But it seems that the Pentecostal closet should come clean with the negatives that surround the actual revival that is said to be the catalyst of the modern Pentecostal phenomena.  Any questions or comments would be greatly appreciated.

Moving Books………

I’ve decided that I’m bringing my Academic library back inside my house from my office.  Two reasons have brought me to this decision.  One being the fact that it is a hassle having half of my library in the office and the other inside.  When I do study in complete silence it is usually in the office and I find myself trekking inside to retrieve a book now and then.  When I am casually blogging or writing, it is inside.  Most of my lexicons are outside and so I have to go to the office and retrieve what I need then as well.  Then there is the problem of having my Cultic writings split in two.  I have accumulated a lot of Mormon writings and Apologetic works refuting this Cult while half are  in my home and half exists outside.  I do keep my various editions of ‘book of mormon’ inside for quick referencing or casual reading.  However almost all of my Watchtower material is outside.  The other reason that I want to move my books inside is the fact that we need storage space for household items and the shelves in my office would be great for that purpose as well.  I’m always nervous about my books though.  Outside there is always the humidity issue. ( my office is not acclimated around the clock)  Also, my youngest daughter has destroyed some very expensive books before!  $350.00 worth of scribbling in two books.  I’ll definitely keep my super nice books higher on the shelves inside and my Cultic writings will go on the very top shelf. (Caveat Lector) So where do you keep your books?

Hiking Trip

We are planning on hiking a portion of the Florida trail along the Econfina creek this next April.  The hike will consist of two days and about 18 miles.  It has been nearly six years since I’ve done any type of hiking.  I estimate that I’ll need to drop about 30-35 lbs. to be able to complete the trek without difficulty.  I plan on having Caleb, Zack, Joshua, and Queenie accompany me, not to mention my other buddies and their sons.

My family and I hiked a portion of the Appalachian trail several years ago connecting at Grayson Highlands Park in Virginia.  It was a beautiful summit to Mount Rogers but proved very difficult with the little ones.  My pack was way too heavy weighing in at 48 lbs..  However, I learned from that and went light with only 18 lbs on the Florida trail six years ago.  I plan on going light again seeing that Caleb is old enough and more than strong enough to carry a good load.  Queenie should be ample protection against any hog threats while Zack and Josh could probably kill a bear with their sling shot.  If you are in the area in April and want to tag along, let me know.  I’ll try to post a map of the general area that we plan on hiking sometime in the future…………………………..

A week later…………………….

I’m behind on my writing project, blogging, and research but I’m making progress with odds and ends here at home.  Our tile shower is almost complete.  Dave Z-man ran out of 6″x6″‘s today……..so we are off to Lowe’s to get more.  Hopefully I’ll be able to shower again in a week or so, it has been nearly 4 months!  I will also be treating the family for a night outing to eat. :)

Work is beginning to line up as well.  So you can imagine our excitement about that.  Also, we found out yesterday that Christine will be receiving a very large sum of money in January!  All of this stems from our government in yonder years purchasing land from the Creek Indians and she happens to be a card toting Indian.  Seriously, blonde hair and blue eyes!  This will help us tremendously fill in the shortfall of my salary.

On a spiritual note………………I’ve been going through 2 Kings with the family and we hope to begin Chronicles.  Can you suggest any fun way of going through the book with smaller children?  I’ve also been looking at the subject of the Sabbath and the New Testament believers relationship to the Old Covenant.  It seems to me, the more I look at this, is that for the apostle Paul, much of his writings was an apologetic for the sufficiency of Christ and the New Covenants superiority over the old.  I am becoming more and more aware of the fact that many Christians really do not understand the significance of the ‘shadows’ and the fulfillment in the person and work of Jesus.  Romans 7 clearly tells us what the status is of the ones that insist on being married to Moses and Jesus…………………………………..

Saturday Fun Day

Today  Caleb and I went to Ace hardware and picked up the necessary supplies to prep our shower for tile.  I installed the backer board and also framed a recess in the wall and built a bench in the corner.  It was a good work out!  Monday we hope to start installing the tile.  Yippee!  The wife is happy and I can’t wait to see her using her new shower.:)

Debate With Unitarian Scholar

I found that my debate with Unitarian scholar Anthony Buzzard is on google!  The debate discussion is “The Bible teaches that Jesus is God”.  I affirmed and Anthony denied.  You will find the debate in its entirety as far as I can tell.  Also there was a lengthy question and answer time with the audience asking the questions and Anthony and I responding.  If you’ve never heard of an Unitarian then you might enjoy the debate.

To Endnote Or Footnote?

I am thinking about submitting a book manuscipt to Herald Press for review for a potential publication.  I am completing the bibliographies chapter by chapter so far and I began thinking about the advantage and disadavatages for endnotes vs. footnotes.  I personally like footnotes better and I’m more likely to read all of them in that format but Herald Press requires endnotes.  So that ends the debate, they have chosen for me.  Also, they don’t like any Greek or Hebrew letters but would rather me transliterate the words.  This is okay but I at least wanted the option of Greek letters if I so find it necessary.  So is this a big deal?  Just wondering what you like better, endnotes or footnotes?

Cross And The Switch Blade

Tonight my family and I watched the Cross and the Switch Blade.  It has been a few years since I watched the video which documents one of the most feared gangs in New York city, the mau mau’s.  Niki Cruz was the leader of the gang and crossed paths with David Wilkerson who was a street preacher.  Niki became a Christian, leaving the life of a criminal gang leader.  The movie is nearly 42 years old and waaaaaaay lame as far as a cultural gap is concerned.  However, this movie still is very powerful to watch.  Christian and non-Christian alike will find the movie interesting.

Franklin County

Thankfully I have a little bit of work in Franklin county as of right now.  Ten years ago my business really took off while doing beach houses on St. George Island.  I had literally hundreds of hours to meditate on God’s word as I worked in the nice gulf breeze.  I used to listen to the Bible on CD and memorize large portions of scripture.  I also listened to a lot of music.  One of my favorite bands at that time was Ten Shekel Shirt, so I’ve included them in my music blog upload for the week.:)
